More Pictures from Rome

The Colliseum is right next to the Forum and Pallatine Hill (unless you take the 5 mile 1.5 hour short cut like we did)

The highlight of my trip to Rome was meeting up with my best friend from youth Elena who I had not seen in over 30 years but is still as beautiful as I remember . After meaningful and acknowledged staring and an incredible lunch near Piazza Navona (restaurant and food selected expertly by Elena); for those interested : appetizers were eggplant, buffalo mozarello (the silkiest mozarello I have tasted); and proscutto--I had tortellini in cream and walnuts. We (Elena, Kathleen and I) then met up with Elena's hospitable family (Husband Carlos, daughter Vanessa and son Joe) and hiked across Rome in search of a gelato (difficult on such a beautiful Spring Sunday)--the first two were busy (and I mean busy) so we went on to the Trevi fountain (did some throwing of coins behind our backs- I am sure we will be back to Rome, it just had that feeling) then to the Spanish steps and then back to the Piazza Navona which has 3 incredible fountains (one by Bernini) and is probably the biggest piazza that Kathleen and I visited. Italian hospitality is all that you have heard and then some. On an extended drive back to the hotel we went to the top of one of the seven hills in Rome to look through the large keyhole placed there by the Knights of Malta. What you see can only be captured in the heart (but I will try to describe it--photos cheat too) It is an arbored path of trees which is quite long - at the end of the path is an incredible view of St. Peter's.
A short coffee near Vanessa's university (Sapienza) and then a repeat of the trip to pick up my knapsack which I had forgotten and then back to our hotel room, after what can only be described as one of the best days of my life (so far anyhow)

More later...

A few pictures from Rome

Had a fantastic trip to Rome with friend Kathleen from March 3rd-10th. Came back and went back to work on Thursday with laryngitis- a mistake--I've been home in bed for 4 days but the fine doc says I am fine.
